Membership
Our aim is to strengthen confidence in the sea and pool and to teach the various aspects of surf lifesaving. Integral to our club ethos is the fostering of community through friendship, teamwork and fun. Surf lifesaving is a hugely rewarding but challenging sport.

We are not a substitute for swim lessons and require a basic competency in swimming to join. This is primarily for safety reasons but also to allow us to build on skills/ progress in surf lifesaving rather than teaching the basics. The disciplines we practise rely heavily on the ability to swim. Prospective members will be expected to be proficient swimmers for their age and should ideally continue to develop their swimming (in a 25m pool) outside of sessions.
We expect:

-
7- 9 year olds to swim 25m front crawl
-
9- 11 year-olds to swim 50m front crawl
-
11 years and upwards 100m front crawl
These distances should be swum competently and consistently (ie head down, breathing to the side).

If you think your child would struggle with these standards, we suggest you enrol in lessons as soon as possible. Ideally lessons should be in a 25m pool.
We’d also like you to be committed to the club. This enables our community to flourish but also because a level of fitness is required to enjoy the sport. Therefore, we expect regular attendance (70 % of sessions or more over the course of the year spread evenly between winter pool and summer sessions).
Currently we train on a Tuesday evening. During the summer this is at Maenporth Beach and during the winter (roughly October to May) at Helston Pool. Parents are required to be present during training.
Next steps
Once your child has reached the top of the waiting list they will be invited to attend up to 3 trial sessions. During these sessions we will assess your child’s swim ability. If your child can competently and consistently swim as outlined above, they will be invited to join.
Please refer to the Falmouth Surf Lifesaving Club website, where you can access the Club Ethos, Club Rules, Safeguarding and all other club policies. Please read and familiarise yourself and your child with these.
The club is run entirely by volunteers, and we rely on parents becoming involved for the health and sustainability of the club. If you think you might be able to help the club in any way e.g. administrative roles or help in the water, please let us know.
